Loitering

The Genteel Giant

He comes from the days of yore, when you measured up your peers by their relative height and willingness to share french fries. Never one to treat anyone unfairly, this means that The Genteel Giant was capable of being quite the not-pushover. To everyone. Even with girls. Smaller than he. Which is still everyone. Because we were are all still smaller than he. Apparently, something occurred during the High School arc that mellowed and sensitized the creature into the chill being he is today. Always one for witty banter and the absolute last word, The Genteel Giant is easily rendered amused by clever things. Solid loyalty and survival skills acquired from the Boy Scout years mean that you shouldn't vote him off the island.

Never Laconic

Current status: female companion to The Genteel Giant. But, that's none of your business, and her identity is strictly her own. Always quick with a quip, it is easy to see how they found each other. I actually met her under different circumstances - in the family friend setting. There's an interesting parallel between our families: three children - the oldest, middle, youngest siblings being in the same grade (age?) as their counterpart in the other family. Internal family structure differs (they're not as rowdy), but isn't that neat? Well, if you're not into weird little coinky-dinks, there's something here for you too. Being Never Laconic doesn't mean that she is full of noisiness (see: The Animated One); au contraire, she is startlingly full of honesty that can be a little bit hard to digest at first. Able to take everything with a grain of salt and then some, Never Laconic is capable of withstanding both constructive criticism and attack. That means high defense points, right?

Grandfather

Sorry, this one I am unable to read in the context of The Group because I know of her from the Hell that was High School (Marching) Band (Hell here being the best kind you can imagine. Fire and short, angry fellows). That's right "her." Female. Then why call her 'Grandfather'? Anyone familiar with Peter and the Wolf (I played the solo where the little bird flies away from the wolf. We had a narrator and everything that year. More Prokofiev, less Disney)? Who is Grandfather? For pete's sake, go google it. I'll wait right here for you. So now you know what she played in band, but that's not her defining feature. It was the fact that as a new member entering as a sophomore, she was already friendly with the upperclassmen (a big deal in the social hierarchy that is Band). In my mind, I had already written her character to be that of a standoffish, precocious girl - clearly unfit to be friend material. I later found her true disposition in a goof-off class (read: Comp Sci) our senior year. Neopets is very good bond-building material. This friendly, benign, affectionate gal is the best to have at your social gatherings as her demeanor is pleasing to everyone, even new people. Good buffer. Small pH fluctuations and everything.

Hammurabi's Code

And other things. Hammurabi's for my etymology paper. The other things are for my friends. It's my genius  fault, really. I REALLY want to make a parallel between the hit show Friends  and my, well, friends. But we soon realized that the pool of characters wasn't enough to cover all of our friends. So, we started collecting more characters from TV show, cartoons, movies, books. Maybe what we need is our own original series. Too bad we don't have an objective third person to use as a narration device. I, as challenged by one of the said friends, will simply serve as the writer for now (let's ignore all of my emotional, delusional. and hormonal baggage that all of my imaginary audience is familiar with from previous posts). Let's start off with the easy ones... _____________________________________________________________________________ Coach Coach - Nick Kent if you're well-versed in the world of sports blogs - as I like to call him, has been a class...

So the conversation with my middle-aged, Chinese father went like so: "I remember the movies that impacted me the most when I first came to America" "Titanic" "No, Charlie " "Dad, what the hell is Charlie? I've never heard of it before?" a low-budget, 90s film perhaps? "nononono...You know the one with the 娃娃(doll) with the scar. Scary" "A doll? You mean Chuckie?" "Yeah. That's what I said. Scary doll, scared the shit out of me" "Really? Did you understand english then?" "哎呀(onomatopoeia of exasperation- aiyah! ) I didn't need to. So. Scary. At first, I watched by myself, but then I was too scared so I convinced your mother to watch it with me. She was pregnant with you at the time, I think. She thought the movie would influence your birth, but I was scared so there were no other options" "...So you risked your firstborn's birth to watch Chuckie?" "...Yes" ...

30 Day Drawing Challenge - Day 2: Favorite Animal

My darling Bonbon the Chihuahua. Who is more bark than bite. Who hates small children. Who is my favorite 跟屁虫. Who is a small dog in the land of giants. Who does not  shiver or have weird body proportions because she has more dignity than your average Chihuahua. Love of my life.
